| Question: |
Rob I noticed on your IDPA CDP class pistol you have scallops on the front strap. How do you like the
scallops compared to checkering? |
| Rob's Quick Response: |
I don't like the scallops as much as the checkering. |
| Rob's Complete Answer: |
The scalloping looks really cool and controls lateral
movement of the gun well. Vertical movement, not so well ... no
where near as well as checkering. That particular gun now has a
piece of skateboard tape over the scalloping. One benefit the
scalloping does have;
it does not abrade clothing, therefore, on a concealed gun, it is better
than checkering. For gripping of the gun, it is worse. RL

| Question: |
As a beginner, it's very easy to fall victim to the equipment wars (long
dust covers, limited pistols, tungsten this and that), and being that I
live in California, hi-cap classes are legally out of reach.
I am new to USPSA and would like your opinion. I have a quality 1911 5"
Single Stack in .45 ACP (bushing barrel, loaded w/ 230 FMJ & 4 gr. of WST)
and I'm wondering if I should set it up for the .40 S/W or leave it alone
and just run it as is in L-10? I'm at least 200 Lbs. & 6
Ft., so the gun is
not too heavy. |
| Rob's Quick Response: |
.45s are great! |
| Rob's Complete Answer: |
I'm also slightly :-) over 200 pounds, and 6'2". We full-figured men need to
stick together! Don't go to a .40! Spend your
money on ammunition. All of the little bells and whistles
make small improvements. You may not even know what
you want to change right now. Some people like heavy
guns, some people like light. You may change what you like
on a monthly basis. Don't get caught up in
modifications for no reason whatsoever.
When you do test
something new, compare it analytically, as opposed to
emotionally. You'll find you might change things
because you like the way they feel, but not find it to be a
performance improvement.
Another neat thing about the .45 is that you can shoot it
in CDP class in IDPA. A .40 shoots in ESP.
